August 2002 Projects

This is the Sewing Workshop's Cityscapes dress. I am reviewing the pattern for the Independent Pattern Club I belong to. I adore this dress. I think it's quite flattering, and the fabric (a rayon jersey) is just dreamy. Next I have the jumper to sew up.

Here is the finished jumper. I picked this fabric up at Canvasbacks, a local manufacturer that has periodic fabric sales. I really like this outfit!

You can see the fabric better in this close up.

I really like the concept of using the lining. This way, the jumper won't drag on the dress. I did this part differently from the pattern directions. First I sewed the shoulders together on both the jumper and the lining (separately), then I sewed the neckline together, trimmed, clipped and understitched. Then I sewed the armholes together, one half at a time, from side seam to shoulder. I think this makes a smoother line at the shoulder.
